Curious. . . pharmacist salary in Oz?

Our Sydneysider friends keep joking that we will want to immigrate to Oz after our visit. DH is a pharmacist and today I read that pharmacists are in high demand and have preferred status for working visas and it got me thinking. . .
Does anyone know the general salary range for pharmacists? Any difference between hospital or retail pharmacists? (Here, in the US, retail pharmacists make about $20,000-$30,000 more than hospital pharmacists, not sure if it's the same in Oz). Any sense of a shortage, and/or is the shortage only outside the major cities?
There are other issues with emigration, such as DH passing Oz pharmacy exams, me finding a job, and our future babies with eager American grandparents, but I can always dream, right?
Thanks!

You are right that Public is paid less than private and that in areas of need you could well get a salary of up to $110,000 - the reason I say this is that there was a programme recently on the need for a pharmacist locum and there was absolutely NO TAKERS even at that salary - sorry I cannot remember the programme or the area of need but it was not in a dreadful place.
Have a look on www.smh.com.au under jobs and see what is going. Yes you should get quite a few brownie points for being a pharmacist. Australia needs good breeding age people to populate the place so do come and get on with it :0) as we oldies need you lot to pay for our pensions! I am not altogether sure about the need of exams. Try looking too at the Northern Territory as they tend to allow people from o/s to work there without accreditation from the Aust. Colleges.

why not contact the pharmacy guild of australia www.guild.org.au for information and salary ranges or go to www.seek.com.au to see what salary range is offered for your husband's kind of experience.

Liz and Daneille,
Thank you very much for your comments and websites. I will check out the websites and see what I can find.
I will also look at the Northern Territory issue-- I would never have thought there would be a difference in requirements, but it makes sense.
Again, at this point, it's more wishful thinking than reality, but who knows what the future holds!
Thanks again!

There are many overseas Doctors working in Darwin ( which is an area of need probably because people think that you cannot live there). We spent one year there and really had a wonderful time - as long as the accommodation is airconditioned. It really is a great place, close to Asia and with a very polyglot mix of people and therefore foods etc. Contacting the Guild is a very good idea too as that would give you an accurate picture of Australia as a whole.
