Cruise Info & question about Dengue Fever.

We will be cruising to Tahiti next Sept. for our first time and are going on the old Renissance ship which is now owned by Princess. Has anyone cruised on this since it became a Princess Ship? I am also curious about the Dengue Fever I just read about on another post. Is that caused by mosquitos? Isn't it a problem mostly if you only go inland? a

Yes, dengue is transmitted by mozzies so you are unlikely to encounter any problems with it either on the boat or anywhere along the shore. There are usually breezes near the water that prevent the little buggers from flying. Even inland you should be OK if you use insect spray. Most of the people who get dengue are locals (who tend to spend a lot more time away from the water and therefor have much longer periods of potential exposure).

We did the Paul Gauguin cruise in Tahiti in June and encountered no problems with dengue fever. We even did inland four wheel drive tours on a couple of the islands. As mentioned just take insect repellent. You will have a wonderful time!
