Climbing Sydney Harbor Bridge
Hi all,
Contemplating doing this climb, either day or the twilight climb. I am afraid of heights but from what I hear, it is manageable..only tricky on the first ladders. However..how is it coming down? Seems to me facing my death as I'm walking would be a bit more frightening :) |
This and just about everything else you'd want to know is covered on the Bridge Climb's website:
www.BridgeClimb.com If you do a search on Fodors, you'll find zillions of posts on it and I don't think I've ever seen one where the climbers weren't glad they'd done it. Lots of other height averse people too ;) |
Hi! I did the climb last July with my mom and we really liked it. I loved being on the Bridge, but didn't really care for the getting up and coming down parts, simply because you are climbing up (and down) VERY STRAIGHT ladders, and you can see the lanes of cars in the traffic right beneath you. But the view is superb, and I don't think the height issue will be a problem....we did the day climb, around 10 am. Hope you have fun---definitely do it, it's a once in a lifetime thing!!!! Thanks Bokhara2, but that site does NOT address what I was asking, specifically about coming down...but it is an informative one.

Vivid01, being afraid of heights I didn't even think of climbing the bridge on my first visit, but decided to climb it a few years ago. The first ladders going up are really not that bad, however, once on the outside span the view erased my fear of heights. Going down is way easier! And very rewarding knowing you have actually climbed to the top of the bridge and overcome any fear of heights. I can't wait to go again.
As for facing death, I found it much more frightening crossing the streets in Sydney as we americans drive on the wrong side of the road. |
Important to know you are tethered to the bridge every step of the way so, even if you slip, you're not falling far.
Did Bridgeclimb several years ago and thought it was fantastic. |
