Challenges of readying Christchurch-Kaikoura-Picton road by Xmas

NZ Transport Agency has been focused on re-opening this earthquake-damaged roadway by Xmas, but there have been more setbacks in its repair due to a recent storm, and another storm is expected within days.

It's a huge job but I guess they just have to work away at it and it's made even more difficult by the road being so narrow and squeezed in between the cliffs and the sea.
I went this way to Christchurch many times as a child and it's a beautiful coastline. We always stopped at Goose Bay. Sad to think it may never be the same again.
