Celebrating special birthday in Queenstown

Hello fellow fodorites, I am hoping you may be able to offer some tips for my daughter who will be staying In Queenstown in January for a week.
She will be holidaying with her best friend who will turn 21 whilst they are there and is wondering what special event/activity she could plan to make the day/night memorable.
She won't have the budget for the obvious hot air ballooning, flight to Milford Sound etc and her friend is not the bungee jumping type... lol. DD has done the jet boat ride before and they will probably do this again but she is looking for something a little more special or unusual for this celebration if possible.
Thanks for any tips/ideas :)

Why not spend some time in a remote part of the landscape. They could trek or take a horse, http://www.nz.com/new-zealand/activi...rse-treks.aspx and stay overnight.

Full moon should be about the 7th from my figuring.

Thanks Alan, nice idea - not sure whether her friend is a horse lover or not but will pass on to her (I'd love to do that!!)

Not sure if your daughter has been to Queenstown yet (you did say January) but what about an over night in Doubtful Sound www.realjourneys.co.nz or check out the queenstown website www.queenstown-nz.co.nz

Thanks Alice, they leave Saturday! This looks great but a little out of her budget I think, I will pass on anyway.
