it's refreshing to see a post about a little known area in NZ! You've obviously been doing alot of research!

I don't have any information about the company you mention, but would offer that's it's a great idea to explore on your own and done easily by car.

Hi - If you're talking about the "RD Tour" with Charles Fraser, my husband & I took this with him and thought it was just wonderful. It is a long day but well designed and well spent. We had 2 short stops for tea and biscuits which Charles provided along the way there and back - this broke up that long drive nicely. We had an excellent lunch at a tiny restaurant near Nugget Point - great seafood chowder - not included in the price. Nugget Point and the light house, Surat Bay and the sea lion, the waterfall which name I can't recall without looking it up, the gypsy house. And plenty more - we were there in October. Charles is a wealth of information and a lovely guide. I ended up napping in the SUV on the return trip - it's a very comfortable vehicle. Unless you have the time to spend the night down that way I don't know how else you could manage. We could never have seen or done so much on our own - and I'm a pretty independent traveler.

I'd definitely recommend it.

New Zealand's the best! If I were 20 years younger I'd move there! Write again if you want to ask more questions. Good luck!

One of the most memorable times of our trip was getting out at 5 AM to see the penguins waddle out to the sea at dawn.
