Catalina Rose Bay - Anyone?

Has anyone eaten at the Catalina Rose Bay - 1 Sunderland Avenue, Rose Bay, Sydney? I was looking at site and me and the Mrs were interested in trying it. Anu suggestions on how to reach it that are reasonable would be helpful as well. Regards - Brazoo

It's been a few years since I've been there, but I remember enjoying the excellent seafood and stunning views. I believe it still has a pretty good reputation.

Suggestions on how to reach it would depend on where you are coming from. We have several people on this board who are very familiar with public transport in Sydney, who might be willing to make some suggestions.

Yes I have been there several times..its quite good and if you go in the day you will have a great view as it is right on the water (Wednesdays and weekends there are lots of yachts on the harbour). The "ladies who lunch" like to go to see and be seen but not only them of course.Food and service are good.Depends on where you are staying. I'm guessing you will be in the City in which case the Rose Bay ferry (I think it still runs) would be a nice way to get there. Otherwise lots of Eastern Suburbs buses pass nearby. A taxi might be a little expensive but at least would take you right to the door.Let us know if you are staying elsewhere and enjoy the experience!

There is some bus but the ferry leaves wharf 4 at Circular Quay.

Asked some one who lives at rose Bay what Calalina is like nowdays. They said "awesome".

Lovely area not far from downtown, good choice !

Pretty classy place.

Named after the old catalina flying boats which used rose bay as a base.

now close to the base of the seaplanes which do flights up to pittwater and over sydney harbour. If you have a $ take a sea plane flight and then eat at Catalina's.Catch the ferry out..doesn't run that often.

Noticed on their website under special offer

until October

Two courses and a glass of wine for $40.00. That sounds a bargain. Only catch is you must dine Monday to Thursday lunch or dinner. Still I am even thinking of a night there myself.

Thanks everyone. I am looking at going out on Sept 16th or 17th depending which date I choose to go to the Blue Mtns the other will be out here for supper. Looks like the Ferry runs about 15-20 min depending on day of time to go from Wharf 4 that Jane pointed out. What time does sunset usually occur at this time of year. Would make for a nice romantic dinner with my wife? Regards - Brazoo

About 6.30 pm. Have fun!

Maybe a tad earlier. It is end of August now and it is dark already now at 6.05pm. Maybe a nice walk around the bay before dinner, will be nice ....or sunset on the ferry !

Brazoo, not long now for your trip. I hope you have a great time.

Peteralan Aug 28th, 2004 08:51 PM

Yes I think I was a bit out...6 o'clock would be closer to sunset at that time of year.

Thanks again to all who contributed to this post. I will plan then to leave on the 4:45 pm ferry (close to that time) and then do a stroll around before dinner at Catalina Rose for a perfect sunset excursion.

Cheers - Brazoo
