Carbon Neutral Holidays - Hidden Valley Cabins, Townsville, Queensland
My wife and I recently stayed at Hidden Valley Cabins which has the distinction of being Australia's first carbon neutral accommodation. They run on solar energy with gas for cooking and offset their use of motor vehicles.
Ian and Bonny are wonderful guests and the cabins are set on a hillside from which you get some view into the valley below. There is a restaurant and bar but if you are there mid week you may have the place to yourselves. It is so quiet we felt the need to whisper. At less than an hour and a half from Townsville it is a wonderful spot to get away from the crowds. The road through Paluma is scenic but requires careful attention as it is steep and narrow. Wildlife is plentiful and tours are available. The rainforest, tall eucalypt forest and woodlands support some of Australia’s rarest wildlife. |

Think they may have had an airing on one of the tele holiday [vacation for our US friends] shows a while back Salty.
What may be more definitely so is that Ian and Bonny are wonderful hosts I imagine you meant to declare. As to claim of being Australia's first Carbon Neutral accommodation I reckon a lot of tenting campers might want to differ but know what they mean. On other hand, when you look at the energy that would have gone into transporting materials to a place out there and then that used by people getting there, there's a certain conditioning to such claims. |
bushranger, You are right on all counts.
It is still an interesting concept and good to see people making an effort. |
Certainly sounds like a great place to stay too Salty.
And obviously you enjoyed it which is even better. |
