Car hire in NZ
 

We hired a car through a small hire car company from Christchurch last year. Worked out quite well but we had ordered a Commodore wagon for 4 adults but when we arrived they had sold it but we were given a Lexus so we couldn't complain but it wasn't economical at all. Apart from the big car hire companies would anyone have other car hire companies out of Christchurch they could recommend.

We always use APEX - never had a problem

I took the advice of folks on this forum and looked at both Ace and Apex. Ace was a dollar a day cheaper but didn't have drop off at the Nelson airport, which I needed. Apex did. We took the older car option at $38 a day for a Nissan Sunny with 130000 kilometers on it. Worked fine, no problems.

We've used NZ Rental Car a few times out of Christchurch. Cheap, older model cars but never had an issue with the cars or the service.
