Car Hire in Brisbane

Hello all. Have planned to spend between 7 - 10 days driving from Brisbane to Sydney (including the Sunshine Coast) and am looking for car rental companies. However as this is part of our honeymoon we would like to hire a car different from the usual ones offered by the big companies, such as an opened top sports car of some sort. Does anybody have any suggestions? Tips on where to stay would also be appreciated - we are very flexible, to the point that we will probably not book in advance but just turn up. Thanks in advance.

I would say that if you got a "different" car rental then you would not be able to do a one way because it would be a very exclusive company and they just don't have the vehicles at their disposal.
I will check out the car rental companies on the Gold Coast as that would be the best bet to get one anyway and get back to you.
You don't say when you are coming either and that would be a help.

Thanks liz. Arrive in Brisbane in the beginning of February.

Couldn't find anything "different" so perhaps you could do a google search for them yourself. I could only find the usual rental agencies.

We have just come back from the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane and hired a car through Shoestrings Express Car Rentals (www.expressrentals.com.au)
They were MUCH cheaper than the well-known companies and good to deal with. They pick you up at Brisbane airport and take you to their depot, about 5 mins drive away. I don't think they would have convertible sports cars but you could ask. Also, for a one-way rental probably only the large companies would do this. We have had good experiences in the past dealing with Hertz and Avis and they would have convertibles.
Also, one thing to think of with a opened top car is sunburn and you would probably want the airconditioner on at that time of year which means the roof up.

On the Sunshine Coast we stayed at The Aegean at Mooloolaba. Really nice, great facilities, ocean and marina views (but lower floors may not have views, make sure you ask) and right in the centre of things.
