CApe York - FNQ - September - good idea or not?
We have the chance to tour north from Cairns up to and including Thursday Island in early September. I am finding it difficult to find any climate/temperature information - & whether that would be leaving it too late in the year.
Would appreciate any ideas or experiences posters might have had with this area. |

Thank you very much for the web page - just what I was looking for!
Would also like to hear from anyone who has done the trip. |
Prue I would advise you read some 4WD forums as I know I have read so much about this journey on those rather than here. Though was some time ago so can't say exactly which one but any 4wd forum would have some experts on this area. Though many posts maybe about how macho their vehicle is many provide photos and notes on various towns and camps. try overlander, landrover etc type of forums. I envy you, have gone a little ways but it is in our future plans to go the whole hog. The weather is either a whole lot hotter or a whole lot cooler than the coast btw. Not sure this helps! |
Thank you for your reply - had not thought of the 4WDs - it seems that the weather won't have got too bad ie. hot/wet if we were to go early September.

G'day Prue,
Tassietwister is right, try this web site: http://www.exploroz.com/TrekNotes/FNQ/Cape_York.asp Exploroz is a great resource. I'm taking a Tag Along Tour up to the Cape in July. Anytime between June and Sept. is ok. Earlier in the Dry season some of the Rivers can still be quite deep, especially when going along the Old Telegraph Track. It's a phantastic trip along there. Enjoy, Mike |
