Canberra hotel -any suggestions?

Heading to Australia next month and spending 2 nights in Canberra. Can anyone recommend a 3 or 4* hotel near to restaurants and attractions.
Thanks!

Since I travel with a family, we always stay in serviced apartments when we are in Canberra so I can't help with specific hotels. But you might want to check the Canberra tourism website (www.visitcanberra.com.au) for info on hotels. I would suggest looking for places which are located around the area of Canberra known as Manuka, e.g.Kingston and Forrest, There are some really good restaurants in Manuka and Kingston and many of the major attractions (both Parliament houses, Questacon, the National Gallery, etc.) are within walking distance or a short drive away.

My favourite in Canberra is the Kurrajong Hotel, it's near to an excellent Turkish restaurant called Ottoman.

The Kurrajong and the Ottoman are both good suggestions. The Manuka shopping centre is nicer and more lively than Civic, the city centre.

There's a new place, the Hotel Realm, on Capital Circuit, Barton, which I haven't noticed and can't comment on, but which would be convenient to the area longhorn mentions and the Ottoman for thta matter. It's self-rated at 5* and www.wotif.com has rooms from AU$155 up.

Another option is the Griffin all-suites hotel in Kingston, which has a fair selection of shops and restaurants and is not far from Manuka. Wotif currently has 1-BR suites from $190 to $240.

NB, you won't find a suburb called Manuka on the street map, just as there's no suburb of Kings Cross in Sydney - it's a shopping/dining locality. Manuka adjoins Canberra Avenue about a kilometre or so east of Parliament House.

The Brassy Hotel is also in the Manuka area and IMHO is a charming old hotel. I stayed there a few years ago and found it very comfortable. It was refurbished a few years ago and very nicely too.
Alternatively there is the YHA which is in the city centre. This a relatively new hostel and looks pretty good on the website.

sorry, try www.brassy.net.au

Brassey just needs an 'e', so www.brassey.net.au. Another good suggestion.

Hi

I have stayed at:

the crown plaza - good, typical 4*, near Civic shopping area plus cinemas and theatre nearby, also the casino if interested

Hyatt Hotel is 5* but if you can get a good rate either through the hotel or on wotif, it really is great - nicely positioned near the lake, great art deco interiors, nice places to sit in the lobby or in the gardens

Rydges lakeside -very tired and 50's ( a couple of years ago)

Apartments are good as mentioned above and if near Manuka and Kingston plenty of restaurants
