I don't think the deportation thing was worrying Neil - Hell - we've all been deported from somewhere, ....haven't we? (mine was Yemen).

I suspect he has some angst about the potential turn-ups on his door step!

regarding the commonwealth and not to b critical of my new home (its only weather get over it): when canadians learned about (the climate of) australia why didn't everyone here just move there??? regardless of the availability or lack therof Neil and Robyn's doorstep

Sheer pigheadedness. They knew the Americans would only move in after them and didn't want to give them the satisfaction. I put this down to the strong Scots influence in Canada.

Our deportation from Canada was also self-imposed. After sampling the Bacchanalian delights of Calgary we decided that things couldn't possibly get any better, so we headed south to the modest fleshpots of Montana and Idaho.

neil, i hope when u return to canada u can meet my scottish canadian friend david greenshields. i've not known him long, but am told by mutual friends that his scottish accent gets more pronounced the longer he lives here!

Andrew, that definitely happens - something related to the way short-term memory loses out to long-term memory as you age. I would sometimes strggle to understand everything my Nottingham-born grandmother said, despite or because of her 50 years in Australia.
