Can you recommend a restaurant in Brisbane?

It will be the last evening of our 3 1/2 weeks in Oz (Tasmania and Lizard Island). Thanks!
Diane

Your question is far to wide ranging as many are. Brisbane is a city of over a million people, where in Brisbane will you be staying, you need to be a little more specific.

We're staying at the Stamford Plaza.

Trekker,

I really like ecco on Boundary Street but you will need to book in advance if you want to go on a Saturday night. The food is wonderfully prepared and very simply presented. Not cheap for Australia, around $30 AUD per main. Michaels at Riverside has the best seafood ever but is expensive. Pier Nine at Eagle St Pier (I think) is also good for seafood but less elegant than Michaels but great fun. Breakfast Creek Wharf is fantastic seafood but I prefer it for lunch because of the views. If you are going in summer for dinner you may get some of the views depending on how early you arrive. These are my favourites.

Lynn's suggestions are all good. Stamford Plaza is close to the places mentioned. Another option is to hop in a cab and go to "Bruno's Tables" at Miskin Street, Toowong. It's a suburb close to the city. Bruno is a wonderful chef, originally from France - a Google search on him reveals a lot of fascinating info. How we got so lucky for him to choose to live in Brisbane, I don't know. We went there last week and the food's fantastic. The restaurant is a little old converted shop.

I agree with Lynn P. Ecco has been brilliant every time I've eaten there. Whenever I'm back in Australia I always make a point of going. As mentioned you'll have to book in advance. I've taken many friends, clients and even my folks there....everyone I've taken or recommended Ecco to have become fans. I have both of Phillip Johnson's (Ecco) cook books....lovely recipes for home as well if you fancy cooking.

You haven't mentioned your food preferences, budget or the style of restaurant you're looking for but I don't think you could go too far wrong with Ecco.

E'CCO BISTRO
100 Boundary St (cnr Adelaide St) Brisbane 4000
(07) 3831 8344

Hope this helps.
