Can I get Bundaberg Rum in the US?

We really enjoyed it in Oz, but I can't seem to find it here (Phoenix, AZ). The local Australian wine shop doesn't know where to buy it -- the manager says the Caribbean rums are more popular here. The largest liquor store I know of actually told me it would be easier to get it from a friend down under. You can email me personally at [email protected] if you have a "source" or any other ideas. Thanks!

Hi I just went to the Bundaberg Rum website and the USA is not listed. The say they cannot export. It is available in Canada though [email protected]

A while back, I contacted Harvest Vintage imports about purchasing Bundy from them. Here is their reply...

Unfortunately we do not ship products internationally and cannot accommodate your request to ship Bundaberg Rum to the United States. More information regarding direct shipping of alcoholic products in the United States can be found @

http://www.wineinstitute.org/shipwine

The short federal answer is that sending wine or liquor products by U.S. mail is a crime and in many states is a felony.

We are the suppliers of Bundaberg Rum in Canada but are only responsible for making it available on a retail level in Alberta. Unfortunately the other provincial liquor boards have not listed Bundaberg Rum and it is not currently available in other provinces.

If you travel to Alberta or have friends that do, the product is available in most reputable Alberta liquor stores under the code CSPC#522235.

As far as I know Bundaberg is beginning to work with a distributor in the United States, but I am not aware of who that distributor is or whether the product will be available in your area. I apologise that we are not able to help you further; we have attempted to accommodate US citizens in the past but have run into much trouble conforming to they hefty regulations. My advice would be to contact the Customer Enquiries department listed on the Bundaberg Web site (Tel: (AUS) 1800 789 344) and inquire with them about the availability of the product in your area. Best of luck in your pursuit! If you require additional information or have any other questions please feel free to get back to me.

Thank you both so much! I had no idea how difficult it would be to get here, or I would have brought some back. Our luggage was overweight as it was (since I had 12 packages of Tim Tams).

Hi Stormy
You would probably be better off contacting Bundy Rum direct and see what they can do for you and at the same time get a bottle of Bundy Royal Rum Liqueur which is nector of the Gods stuff. Did you try some?

Chris, You've given me a great reason to visit Alberta to see relatives in Edmonton and Lethbridge! Thsn I could just bringit home to the good old USA in my suitcase! ( I just ran out of what I brought back from Australia last summer.) Thanks for the tip!

Apparently Bundy is still only available in British Commonwealth nations and I'm devastated about those liquor and mailing laws :(. Friends and I are planning to travel around the states in a few years time but there's just some things we can't live without and we were hoping to have our families mail anything not readily available. Here in Australia we have special packaging just for mailing liquor!! Looks like we may be travelling to Alberta a few times. Lol

I can think of a few things that I couldn't do without while travelling, but very few, and I must say that Bundaberg rum isn't one of them. (Or Vegemite, for that matter.) I've done a fair bit of driving around the US and Canada and can't remember feeling deprived of anything except drinkable coffee, but even that stuation had changed greatly for the better by the time of our second trip.

America is, after all, the Land of Plenty, and I do mean plenty - including cheap beer (much of it, contrary to Australian legend, very good) and hard liquor.

There are too many rums from Central America and the Caribbean for Bundy to gain purchase here. If you actually care about quality, try Flor de Cana or barbacourt. Bacardi is generally crap.

And if you can get Havana Club in Australia (because Oz doesn't have a trade embargo with Cuba), why the heck are you wasting your koaladollars on the stuff from Queensland?

ivenotbeeneverywhere Jun 11th, 2010 07:51 PM

Because the stuff from Queensland, especially Bundaberg Royal Rum Liquour beats any rum from anywhere.

I think the original question was - can I get Bundaberg Rum in the USA? The answer is NO - not anywhere in the USA. I wrote (eMailed) to Bundaberg Rum to find that answer out for myself. Their reply was that they are planning to break into the the very guarded and highly protected US Liquor Market, and are negotiating with US Authorities in an attempt to achieve just that, but the process is slow - takes years! In the meantime they are preparing their US advertising campaign in anticipation that they will eventually get the go-ahead - but they do not seem to be holding their breath on that happening soon. However, it is not all bad news - you can still get the Bundy sent to you. But it isn't cheap - However, it works, works well - as I use it to send Bundaberg Rum to my best mate in West Virginia. You can order Bundaberg Rum to be posted to you via Britain - here is the company (the Whiskey Exchange) website address: http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/ I hope I have solved the mystery for you and your mission may now he accomplished, just as mine has.
