Can I drive in New Zealand

Any requirement for tourist to rent a car in the South Island of New Zealand ?

I have one year driving experience in my home country and have applied for an international driving license. Can I rent a car in Christchurch ?

Yes you can drive in New Zealand. There are many car rental places in Christchurch. We do drive on the left hand side of the road and not the right. Roads are very good.

Veronica you may need to check out age restrictions if you are under 25 years. Peg.

But I heard that it requires at least 3 yrs of driving experience for tourist to rent a car in the S.I., is it true ?

Have just rung Avis and they said normally 25 is the age but would use their discretion at the time if you are over 21.
Hertz said over 21 and bring licence and credit card.
Budget says full licence for three years.
Rent a Dent says three years.
It would certainly pay to ask around if you are under 25. Hope that is some help.

It's the first time I notice that it requires 3 yrs of full license to rent a car in NZ. All the information I searched so far including the tourist promotion board and the car rental company haven't mentioned it. I am over 25 and hold a license for 2.5 yrs, anyone knows which company can rent a car to me ?
