Cairns Skyrail and scenic railway.

We will be travelling from Port Douglas to catch the Kuranda Railway at the Freshwater Station. We will be leaving our car there and catching the Sky rail back.
How do we get from the skyrail back to our car at Freshwater.

You can include the transfer as part of the ticket, including, if you prefer, transfers to/from your accommodation. See this link, for example -

http://www.ksr.com.au/TourOptions/Pages/KSRClassic.aspx

Your accommodation should be able to arrange this for you, including pick-up, drop-off etc. from your accommodation, unless you really want to drive.

It appears that you have already decided to take the train up and the skyrail back, which is the way we've always done it and the way I would recommend. The train only goes twice a day whereas the skyrail is effectively continuous, so you can always come back (on skyrail) whenever you've had enough, without being tied to a specific return time.

It certainly would be cheaper to drive to Freshwater Connection for Kuranda Train than take Skyrail's shuttle from Port Douglas. You can save extra $'s by only one taking the Skyrail shuttle from Skyrail back to Freshwater for one person, the shuttle charges per person, about $7 from memory. Then pick up other passenger(s) at Skyrail at Caravonica, if you're heading back to Port Douglas you have to go back that way anyway, its only about a 6km drive between Freshwater and Caravonica.

Yes, there are two trains leaving per day from Freshwater, 8.50 and 9.50am, they like you to be there at least 30 mins before train leaves for check-in. Skyrail trips can be booked all day at 15 min intervals, and Skyrail will want to know what time you intend to return. This is to save bottlenecks

Thank you both for your replies. The problem with hotel transfers is we are leaving Port Douglas that day and staying at Cairns after the skyrail. The shuttle bus is the way we will go I think.
