Cairns Hotels - 3 adult max per room ?
 

Hi, I have been trying to make an online reservation at a number of hotels in Cairns and noticed that most of the places I want to make a reservation at allow a maximum of only 3 adults per room, even if the room I am trying to reserve has 2 double beds in it. Does anyone know why this is ? This rule doesn't seem to exist in the other cities I am making hotel reservations at during our visit to Australia. My wife and I and our 2 teenage kids (who are too old to qualify as children) would like to stay at a place close to the Cairns center, but, we can't afford 2 rooms at any of these places. Is there some legit way around this requirement that anyone knows of that would allow us to only have to book 1 room ? Or is this just some kind of local "hard" rule ? Thanks for any insight....

I don't have an answer to your specific question, but perhaps you might consider staying in a two bedroom serviced apartment instead? We've found these to be great value and they provide a lot more space, which I'd think would come in handy when traveling with four people.

Just a thought.

There's several B&B's in Cairns area with "family" rooms ie, one queen bed and two single beds in same room. www.bnbnq.com.au None of them are right in Cairns city, but nowhere's very far in Cairns and reef tours, as well as others, all pick up at door. If you check their websites and look at some of the locations, you may very well find you'd prefer to be out of town a bit.

No idea if there is some sort of council regulation affecting your booking. Does seem a little odd.

But - how much do you want to spend? Not sure what you mean by "those places". Do you have a list of "must haves" for your accommodation?. I only ask cos you could stay quite centrally for $72 AUD a night for a room sleeping two - ie $144 for all of you with the children in a room of their own.

Would that be too much?

I believe the reason behind this restriction of 4 in a room is due to fire codes. Don't ask me how lone they've been on the books, or any other pertinent info!

Melnq's idea was spot on -- you'll have lots more room, in most cases cooking facilities, thereby enabling you to do some shopping, do a simple meal, have your sodas, juice, etc in the room, thereby saving money and having a relaxing evening to boot.
