Cairns Airport
 

We have a tough 5-hour layover in Cairns (12:30am to 5:30am). Wanted to know a little about the airport. <BR> <BR>1. Is it safe and comfortable enough to stay these hours? <BR> <BR>2. How are the showers? <BR> <BR>3. Are restaurants and shops open at this time of the morning/night? <BR> <BR>Thanks.

1/ absolutely <BR>2/ very good <BR>3/ yes <BR>4/ they have a web site that you can look all this up on. Can't remember what it is but if you do a search you should get it - look under Cairns port authority

Shops and restaurants were not open at 5:30 in the morning when we were at the Cairns airport in September. Had to wait to get a cup of coffee.

Hans, would definitely be safe inside. Not a good idea to go walking outside as a few months ago a crocodile was run over on the road leading into the airport (seriously). I'd be surprised if all shops/cafes were open all night - but something may be open. <BR>Kay

It must only be sometimes that they are open because I went through the airport in late August and they were open at about 4.30 AM or perhaps we were 'special' :o)

Hi, <BR> <BR>I was on a really early morning flight out of Cairns the last time I was there, and things seemed to be open, but then ... I was still half asleep! Small airport, but v. comfornatble for a sleep! <BR> <BR>
