Byron Bay or Gold Coast?

Considering spending my last night at the Byron at Byron Bay or Palazzo Versace in the Gold Coast. Has anyone visited both of these places? Tough decision.

Oranges and apples actually. Byron has become a hippy mecca which is dirty and past it. Versace is a 6 star hotel and a destination in itself.

Byron has magnificent beaches and hinterland, but do have to agree with LizF about the town itself. Was there a weeks ago and was horrified to see how the town has degenerated, even though my kids who live a few kms out had warned me.

I haven't stayed at Byron at Byron Bay, jason, but have seen it from outside and fortunately, its well away from the township.

Appreciate the info. Is Noosa worth checking out? Sounds a lot like Santa Barbara.

Now you're getting close Jason....

Noosa = Santa Barbara circa 1980

Gold Coast = Miami

Byron Bay = Big Sur/Carmel Valley.

Hi Jason, I didn't for a second try to put you off Byron at Byron Bay, as I said its well out of Byron township, which is suffering a lot of problems right now. For one night there would be no need to go into the town anyway, we're still talking about one of the best coastal and hinterland areas of the country, and to my mind far more attractive than Noosa and the Sunshine Coast.
