BYRON BAY
 

Our family - adults and little children - will be in Byron Bay for a week for a wedding in late December. Any ideas where we should stay? We'd rather individual cottages so we have some privacy for some part of the day!! And, any suggestions for places in Byron Bay where I can make a rehearsal dinner (about 80 people) for our guests? Thanks!!

If you want to keep an eye on cost you might try the
Byron Services Club for the dinner.

If you have a car you might try the cottages at the
Broken Head Leisure resort
for accomodation.

Alternatively if you want to spend up there are other options.

Either way make your moves soon.

Thanks for the information; I'll check it out. If you know of other places to stay on the beach with a family, I'd like to hear more from you. We can spend a little more for that week since it's our major vacation for the next few years!!

If you are looking later than mid december then prices will be at peak school holiday rates.The better places will go rapidly.

Yes, we're coming from the U.S. We booked the Victoria's at Ewingsdale in Byron Bay for my husband and myself. The kids found lodgings elsewhere. Do you know Victoria's? Is it a nice place to stay? any personal recommendations?

Wow...Victoria's is real 4-5 star class in a great rural location.You are at Ewingsdale right? they have a place at Wategos too.This is about as classy a B&B as you are going to find in all of oz.

I can remember dairy farmers from McGettigans Lane who would turn in their grave at such luxury (dare I say pretension)in their piece of the "big scrub".

You WILL need a car as it is 3 miles from byron bay town and beaches.The access road from ewingsdale to byron can be surprisingly busy in peak times.

How are you getting to Byron?Are you coming in from sydney?

I would quibble at the concept of a tuscan villa in an aussie sub tropical area but hell i haven't got enough $ to get within cooee of a place like that.I feel embarrassed at suggesting the services club for your rehearsal dinner.

I actually live very close to Victoria's at Ewingsdale & I don't think you will be disappointed. Byron will be in full holiday mode in late December so you will have peace & quiet at Victoria's & still only 5 minutes (by car) from Byron.

The question of where to have a dinner for 80 guests at this busy time of the year is more difficult to answer. One suggestion would be 'Bay Pavilion' at the Byron Bay beach resort (www.byronbaybeachresort.com.au). This is a popular place for weddings & they have the facilities to hold a dinner of this size. Another alternative would be to take over a restaurant for the night. There are several in Byron that I think would be more than adequate & I would be happy to make suggestions if you require. I do not think that the Services Club would be suitable.
