Bunbury
Can anyone tell me what they know about Bunbury? What is it known for? It it a tourist area? Thanks!
|
Do you mean Bunbury in Western Australia?
|
Yes and what would be a good time of year to visit?
|
I am originally from Perth but not been back for a long time, but Bunbury to my knowledge is still one of the larger towns, but do not expect anything special architecture wise etc. Bunbury has good beaches and in general the south-west is a very nice area, but check out on the internet places like Yallingup and MArgaret River, MR is a big wine producing area now - won world awards for Chardonnay and is popular for locals. The karri forest around the area are impressive. As a tourist I would favour MR and the area fa bit urther south than Bunbury. IF you faqncy going even further Albany has great scenery.

I grew just north of Bunbury in WA and can say there isn't a lot in Bunbury itself even thought it is the biggest town in the South West. As Nick said there a lot more to do at towns just around Bunbury.

Australind, which is about 10 minutes north of Bunbury has an estuary where you go fishing and crabbing during the summer season.

Busselton about 45 km further south is a popular holiday town with good beaches and a jetty where you can go fishing and snorkelling.

Other places around the area like Margaret River (has great beaches for surfing) and Yallingup have already been mention by Nick.

I was there a couple of weeks ago. It is home to the dophin discovery center http://www.dolphindiscovery.com.au/ you can take cruises to see them, or from the 1st of dec they organise 'swim with the dolphin sessions'. We also visited a little wildlife park "Big Swamp Wildlife Park" its nothing to write home about but if you are on a short trip to WA it might be a good chance to get close to some 'roos. Simon
