Hi aussiedreamer, thanks for posting and all the photos. Such a shame your original return trip didn't turn out as you'd expected but at least you weren't out of pocket too much if Ford covered things for you. We've been back from France (and London) nearly a week now and it's so nice to be home.
I'd love to hear any tips you have for new caravanners. We went to the Brisbane Caravan Show a few months ago and just felt overwhelmed with choice, so deciding what to buy - and when - is the first step. Also where to store the van. Any major do's or don't's? Seeing wildlife is something we are really looking forward to. Thanks, Kay |

Brisbane to Broome
Hi AussieDreamer. Loved reading your report. We are planning a visit to both the top end of Australia (Darwin/Broome/Katherine) and maybe Brisbane before heading over to both the N. and South Islands of New Zealand. Trying to figure out months would be best to see both (don't want to in New Zealand during the winter or in the top end during possible monsoon season and heat). I was thinking first in the top end mid October and then heading over to NZ in early November. Do you think we would beat the rainey season up in the top end or would that be too late? Thanks in advance. I know NZ might be cold in novermber but thought not as bad as June, July, Aug or Sept would be.

Hi livingretirement, sorry for the delay in responding. I can only offer advice based on our experience and I feel October is a bit late. I'll let you know why I think that.........
We traveled from mid August to early September initially and it was 'warm', I vividly remember being incredibly hot at the Bungle Bungles. Our 2nd attempt was the first week of October and it was unbearable, we literally drove all day (albeit we were in a hurry to get home) and when we pulled up at night it was so hot, we would plug the power into the van for the AC and then jump in the nearest pool. It was on average 40deg everyday. But I think more importantly than that, we were surprised how much everything closes for the 'season'. Most of the things we did on the way over were no longer operating or open, closed until after the wet season. Even some of the campgrounds were closed for the season. You may not have to worry about the 'wet season' as such in October but the heat and the flies would be really unpleasant. Sorry if thats all a bit yuck, but thats our take on it. November would be lovely in NZ. Hope this is of some help. |

Margo - I must be a sucker for punishment. I'm thinking about the 2021-22 Ashes. I know it's a long way ahead but it would fit in well with other plans I think. And it will enable me to save my pennies! |
Brisbane to Broome
Thanks so much AussieDreamer. Now thinking arriving mid September at the Top End before moving onto Brisbane/Sunshine Coast and then off to NZ. Problem for me is NZ. I'm a South Florida gal (USA) and hate the winters. So just a little worried about NZ if I get there much earlier than October.
