airplane, Borneo probably wouldn't come under "Australia and the Pacific", does Fodors have an Asian section?

Yes, tropo, it does - if you hit the little button above on LH side to change forum, it's there.

And which country do you plan in visiting? The island of Borneo is divided between Indonesia, Brunei and the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak.

I (Brit) have had no trouble in Sabah or Sarawak in the past.

A couple of my friends, 18 months ago, went to a local Gypsey market in Sabah (Kota Kinabalu) and they found people a bit hostile because they thought they were americans, when they realised they weren't, it was okay - so it may depend on which country you are from.

There is a history of piracy and hostage taking by phillapino pirates on some of the islands to the north of Sabah.
