The reason you want to do Bora Bora last is that by the time you leave there, you are a vegetable - and not worth much. It's the most relaxing place I've ever been in my life. After 8 nights, really - you're going to not even be able to walk without tripping because it's so much work to move your feet. Also, the water is stunning - beautiful beyond compare, and I don't think you will find the water at Moorea as attractive - it will be a bit of a let down, which it wouldn't be at all if you went there first. So, since you can't - just get in your mind that you're going to enjoy the beauty of the island itself of Moorea (which I thought was prettier than BB - bigger, very lush) and you're going to enjoy some snorkeling there as well. Also, definitely take the jeep ride through the mountains - much better than the one on BB - and the scenary is beautiful - more mountainy. The only problem will be to wake up long enough to do it...... I thought Moorea had more/better restaurants, and the shopping was MUCH better in Moorea.
As for food in BB, I don't know what the issue is. I thought the food was good. Le Meridien is a 5 star resort, and as such, dinners can be expensive. We ate breakfast there every day - loved it. The lunches were fine - food was good, not that expensive. We usually went over to the main island for dinner. We rented a car once, and arranged to be picked up at the dock the other times (most of the restaurants do that - you just let them know where you're staying when you make the reservations). We enjoyed the meals in BB. Whatever you do - take a whole bunch of film and take LOTS of pictures. I never could capture the true color of the water in BB - but I have a couple of the photos blown up in my office just to calm me down on those bad days... You are going to absolutely love it! Learn a few french sayings (merci, bonjour, etc) - and be prepared to learn a few Tahitian ones. ENJOY!!
