Books on hiking trails--Queensland

I have from the library two books on hiking in Australia--Hiking Tropical Australia by Lew Hinchman (not enough NPs that we are going to) and the Lonely Planet Hiking in Australia (too broad in scope so only covers a few NPs). I was wondering if there were books available in Australia about day hikes in the Queensland National Parks? I am looking for descriptions like in the Hinchman book but for more parks in FNQ. If there are some good ones, are they available from any bookstore (like in Sydney) or do they need to be special ordered? Thanks for any information you can give me.

50 Walks in North Queensland
by Tyrone Thomas

RRP $21.95 AUD

"50 Walks in North Queensland" now enters its second edition aiming to be even more popular among international backpackers and Australian bushwalkers alike. It highlights the Wet Tropics Rainforests and the Great Barrier Reef. The margins of the region covered extend from Cape Tribulation in the North through Chillagoe Caves and Porcupine Gorge near Hughenden to Cape Hillsborough near Mackay in the South. Seven Great Barrier Reef islands are represented with Hinchinbrook Island's Thorsborne long-distance trail a special feature.
In keeping with the successful format of other books in this bushwalking series, "50 Walks in North Queensland" offers graded walks, easy, medium and hard, and both day walks and walks requiring camping out.
Sections of the book provide background information about the special factors relevant to walking in the Wet Tropics together with sections on safety, first aid, equipment and food suggestions.

Thanks, lancefan, that sounds like a winner. Didn't look like it was available in the US. So you think we could get it from a book store when we get to Oz or does it have to be ordered?

If you write to the Queensland Tourism Bureau and ask for information on hiking in NPs I think they have got some really good information which the may send you - well they used to have it anyway.

I'd send an email to the publisher - they might be able to sort you out.

or you could also contact my fave oz shop for travel stuff - map world. http://www.mapworld.net.au/ they would be able to let you know whether it's in stock or whether they'd have to order. I just don't know whether it would be in stock. I have to say I've seen others of his in stock there ... but not that one. that said, I haven't looked for a while.
