Blue Mountains
We are looking at a long weekend in the Blue Mountains in a few weeks time. We will most likely be there for a Sat / Sun / Mon night. Where is the best place to stay to have access to a choice of restaurants and to be close to the major attractions? What are the 'must see' parts of the Blue Mountains?

Hi LakesideChick,
Is this your first visit to the Blue Mountains? My favourite place to stay is Leura - largely for all the points you mention. And I think it's the prettiest of the Blue Mountain towns. Blackheath is lovely too, but doesn't have quite the range of eateries and is a little farther west. I imagine you've had a look at the Blue Mountains website - lots to see & do for all interests & tastes. http://m.bluemts.com.au/info/ |
<<What are the 'must see' parts of the Blue Mountains?>>
You'd best figure this out on your own by answering - what do you WANT to see? The lookout for the Three Sisters is in Katoomba. East of Leura is Wentworth Falls and the various hiking trails near it. Leura is a nice town and Zest restaurant is good. And if you drive to the Jenolan caves, bring your anxiety pills. Still not sure we're over that . . . |
Hehe was the anxiety due to the drive or the caves? We are into photography, short walks and good food if that helps with recommendations!

Probably the road, which is quite narrow & winding in parts.

The road. If you've ever driven (or been driven) south from Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast, you have a clue about it. Now, do it in the twilight and near-dark whilst driving on the wrong side of the road.

We stayed in Katoomba at Wyndadryne Boutique B&B, which is well-situated, has a wonderful hostess, and a fabulous breakfast. It is right across the road from Echo Point. From there, you can hike down the "Giant Stairs" to Scenic World, seeing Katoomba Falls along the way and continue up via the railway to the Scenic World main building. You can return to Echo point via the Skyway to East Station with a short walk after that. If you get going early (like 9 am), you'll beat the tour buses and have plenty of time to drive to Leura to check out the shops in that small town. We had a fantastic meal at Pins on Lurline, not too far from our B&B.

For 3 days, you may wish to consider renting a cottage. Have a look at Airbnb & Stayz.
4 of us recently stayed at Endellion in Leura & it was ideal. Lovely cottages, just 1 street & 5 minutes walk to Leura Mall. |
Thanks everyone :-)
