Best Time of Year

Jsut starting to plan vacation to Australia. Was hoping to information about the best time of year to go. Planning on doing Sydney,GBR, Melbourne. Also, lost as what has to be seen, right now looking at 2 weeks for the trip.

The time of year really does depend on what you want to do - March is generally a great month (particularly in Melb) - it's not too hot for sightseeing and the weather is usually fine and warm.

March/April and September/October are probably the best times for travel to those places - unless you're really into beach swimming, when it's a little cool. The GBR is too hot in summer, and Melbourne, and sometimes Sydney, is too cold in winter. (well, not really cold, but a bit nippy!)

For 2 weeks holiday I would only be doing Sydney and the GBR and maybe through in a trip to Canberra on the train and a trip to the Blue Mountains. For the GBR the best times are April to October. Unless you are right into swimming on the beach then it would not matter for Sydney suffice it to say that the middle of winter will be cool and not as pleasant as Autumn and spring.

Thanks for the help. Margo_oz you say that the water is cool during Sept/oct. Would you be able to swim in GBR? Would be coming from Vermont. Would like to do a lot of hiking and diving near GBR and sightseeing in Sydney. this is such an adventure.

Kemob
Certainly you could swim / snorkle / whatever on GBR in September / October. Much later than this is too hot and humid there, and you can't swim in many areas of the Reef because of stingers.

This is a great time for Sydney, as well.

Come on over and have some fun!
