best sites to see in Melbourne

I will be traveling to Melborurne with a team in August. What are the best local sites that one must see? Is there anything that I should bring with me, that one would not ordinarly bring?

Gwen,

Take a trip to Albert Park if you get the chance. Also check out the shopping, and the cafes. Melbourne is famous for both, and both are great!

August is mid Winter so it will be cold (about 13 celsius). There are plenty of sites close to the city to see - Southgate (Sunday market), the beautiful botanical gardens, catch the ferry to Williamstown (also Sunday craft market), Victoria markets, Brunswick Street shops and for longer trips The Great Ocean Road, the townships of Ballarat (Sovereign Hill)and the village of Maldon which is classified by the National Trust. Have a great time.

Gwen

Even if you are not a sports fan, you must try to see an Australian Rules Football match, preferably at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. No need to book, just front up about an hour before the match is due to start.

Enjoy your trip.

Scott

Melbourne sites. If you love old buildings - Werribee Park (also a great safari type zoo there), Old Melbourne gaol (gruesome), a night trip out on the bay to see the city lights, lunch in the restaurant in the Fitzroy Gardens, afternoon tea at the Windsor, The Casino and Southgate, a walk through Melbourne University, the list is endless. So much to enjoy......
