Best deal on debit/credit/cash cards

Were travelling to the U.S. soon and I'm still unsure what cards work best. When we were there three years ago I used an Amex card that I still have. Naturally there were charges incurred when withdrawing cash and charges for other transactions. I'd value the opinion of readers regarding the best way to go. We're taking some cash with us (which we bought before the $AU plunged so dismally!!) Thanks

We take our Commonwealth money card loaded with the appropriate currency, our ATM cards (commonwealth) , a Visa card (mine) and my husband has a MasterCard , and a small amount of cash usually couple hundred $. Westpac customers can use Bank of America ATMs without charge if you are with that bank. Branches Hard to find out of big cities.

Thanks Northie. We're with NAB so need to double check who the reciprocate bank would be in the US I guess.

Might not be any reciprocal . There isn't with Commonwealth.

Check out the 28 Degrees MasterCard.

It's a GE Money product, has no foreign currency fees or annual fee. I also use it for online purchases in a foreign currency.

Look at Nick Booth's site:

Consensus here and on Tripadvisor is 28 degrees Mastercard for a credit card, and Citibank Plus for cash. Search for this on the Australian board on Tripadvisor, plenty of sound information (and some duds!)
