Beach Club or Reef View on Hamilton Island mid March?
We've decided to go to Hamilton Island in mid-March because of the direct flights from Sydney. Of the places to stay there, Beach Club and Reef View look okay, if a bit expensive. We'll probably do the 3-night or 4-night special that includes a day at the Great Barrier Reef.
Which of these two do you recommend? Which has the better rooms? Better environment? Since it may still be rainy weather, is Reef View better than the beach-front Beach Club? Do the boat trips to the GBR still go out in the rain? Thanks for any help you can provide. Sue |
Hey Sue!
I only see one flight direct, btw, everything else changes in Brisbane (which is what I'll be doing in September). Comparing the hotels is sort of like comparing apples to oranges -- the Reef View hotel is a highrise that looks like something you'd see in Miami Beach, a moderate property, whereas the Beach Club is sleek and sexy and more well, like a private club. Regarding the boats, just depends on how bad the weather is; if it's a heavy rain/storm, no, because it will just churn everything up and visibility will be poor anyway. Hope this is helpful! Thanks Melodie,
I was leaning toward Reef View and now I'm not sure... Sue |
I would pick The Reef, super rooms, largest rooms and bathrooms I have ever experienced and the views are majestic

I forgot to add, GBR of course is a must see when you are that close, the boat trips were postponed for 2 days when we were there because of rough seas (I don't think rain matters) and finally decided to go the next day but warned everyone it would be very rough, as it was, everyone was issued with free sea sick pills, luckily though it did not effect us however it was a job to avoid the mess on board!
Because of the seas and the swell the water at the reef was very very churned up, visibility bad and the snorkelling very difficult so the underwater colours were pretty much spoiled. Unfortunately the trip was I am sad to say a big anticlimax, but to be fair they did warn us of the conditions and what to expect. |
OK, I'm back to choosing the Reef View. Plus, it's a bit less expensive. I'll just hope we get calm seas when we are there March 13-16.
