Bangkok - Good Hotels

Hello Everyone! I would like suggestions as to what people think are some of the nicest hotels in Bangkok. I'm looking for suggestions on newer first class type properties. If you could comment on location, facilities and costs, it would be much appreciated. Thanks for you help.

The Oriental is consistently rated as one of the top hotels in the world. We stayed there a couple of years ago and were not disappointed. Location is right on the river, so it is easy to catch a long tail boat (water taxi) to get to about anywhere you want to go. Price was reasonable by US standards. Probably even less expensive now that currency is devalued.

Glen, Cliff is right. I stayed at the Imperial Hotel for a month about 10 years ago and it was a bit less expensive than the Oriental but VERY nice. Of course, Thai service is always excellent, or so was my experience.

Glen, I have done some research on this topic. Could you tell me what exactly are you looking for? What price range, preferred location (shopping district, tourist attraction area, or anything goes). I can send you information on some useful sites on the net on Bangkok hotels. Regards, Aazar

Glen,

I just returned from Thailand. On my way to Phuket, stayed 3 days at the Royal Orchid Sheraton. It was very nice, located next to the River City Shopping Mall on the same strip of the river than the Oriental and the Shangri-la. On my return from Chiang Mai, I stayed at the Oriental, which is without a doubt one of the best hotels in the world. Outstanding service, wonderful rooms.
Have fun.

Hi Martine. Thanks for the info. I stayed at the Royal Orchid Sheraton a few years ago and enjoyed it very much. Its a little expensive at the moment. Its hard to decide where to stay as there are so many great deals around. Thanks again.

Glen: I liked the Shangri-la very much, especially the riverside garden and pool area, a welcome respite from bustling Bangkok. Also the rooms are spacious and the service is excellent. Visit the ancient capital of Ayuthaya, and the summer palace, especially pleasant when reached by boat.

I stayed at Shangri-la Krungthep wing from 5/10-14 and booked via www.planetholiday.com. Had a lovely stay in a very nice room--deeply discounted to around $140US/day including tax/service. Food and service were excellent and lovely grounds. Recommend you visit the ancient city via the Shangri-la boat--only 1200 baht for a full day tour and lunch.
Suggest bus out boat back--I slept on the bus ride out and we had a lovely (although hot!) time.
Have fun!

I just returned from Bangkok. We stayed at the Grand China Princess on the corner of Yaorwat and Ratchawong about 3 blocks off the river. Very nice room with all amenities (robes, slippers, fruit basket, minibar/fridge with complimentary bottled water, etc.) for about $60 a night including breakfast. It was close enough to the river to catch water taxis, close to the Grand Palace and Wat Po and, being in the middle of Chinatown, close to Sampheng Lane and the Thieves Market. The staff was very friendly. Enjoy your trip.
