Bangkok and Phuket - hotel advice.

My wife and I are planning a trip to Bangkok and Phuket. We would love to get advice on hotels in Bangkok and Phuket. We are prepared to spend around $100 per night provided the hotel is very good and located close to the shopping district.
Thanks.

The Dusit Thani Hotel is located on the Silom Road Rama I in Bangkok. This is a very good hotel and just on the very good shopping road. Also, the Holiday Inn is a good place to check in, too. It's located on the Silom road soi Mahaesak.

Or you may browse the website: www.asiatravel.com to get more info. about the hotel in Thailand. You can book a room through this website, or contact the hotel directly yourself.

Hello. I have stayed at quite a few hotels in Bangkok and one on Phuket. Bear in mind that with the current currency crisis there are some bargains in hotel accommodations. I have stayed at the Royal Orchid Sheraton right on the river front, which is good for reliable and quality service. The Siam City which is rated as deluxe, and not far from shopping. Just a few months ago I stayed at the new Montien Riverside Hotel which is the most amazing hotel I have seen. The rooms are large and the lobby huge. There about 7 restaurants there. The hotel is a little out of the main shopping districts, but a free ferry service will take you to the Riverwalk shopping centre where you can take a taxi to other places. Taxis in Bangkok are very cheap. One great thing about this hotel is its quiet location and riverfront position. All rooms are river view, a must as far as I'm concerned in Bangkok. The hotel is rated deluxe and is huge with a beautiful swimming pool. Last time I went to Phuket I stayed at the Thavorn Palm Beach Resort Hotel which was quite nice. It is located on Karon Beach and has 5 huge swimming pools and several restaurants. You can walk to other shops and restaurants. Hire a jeep and take a drive around the island. I hired one for 3 days and had a blast. Hope this info helps you.

My wife and I just got back from our trip to Thailand. In Bangkok, due to the baht depreciation, everything is a bargain. We stayed at the Mandarin Hotel, a very nice hotel. It's rated ** in Bangkok but compared to certain hotels in North America, I would say it earns easily ***. Rooms vary from standard to deluxe with a price range from 25$US to 70$US. We took the superior room for 30$ and were very pleased. The hotel has a coffee lounge which opens 24h where you can have great thai and chinese foods with live band playing. The hotel is weel situated and is 5 minutes away by taxi from World Trade Center and Siam Center (Bangkok biggest shopping malls). There's a thai hotels bookings service at WWW.ASIATRAVEL.COM .Check it out, they have hotels for everywhere in Thailand. They give up to 50%25 discount on internet reservation. You'll have to bargain everything in Bangkok, even taxi fares. Beware of tuk tuk (3 wheels taxi) and insist on taking you where you INITIALLY want to go because they get commission from bringing you to their sponsored places.
If you have time in Phuket, go to Phi Phi Island. It's a paradise! It's 1h30 by ferry from Phuket and is much more quiet and exotic than Phuket. Phi Phi Hotel is a 4 years old hotel, very nice for 30$/night. It's not directly on the beach but is located in the middle of the 2 beaches and is 2 minutes walk from each. Unless you want absolutely to be on the beach, try Phi Phi Princess resort. Be aware that many hotels on the island don't have a bathtub neither a shower cabin. The shower is separated from the toilet bowl only by a curtain. If you decided to go there, plan to stay at least 4 days to enjoy the island. Take the taxi boat around the island is highly recommended (20$ for 3 hours) where you can snorkel in an incredible clear water among colored fishes and coral reefs. Personnaly, we stayed in Phuket for only 1 night and didn't really like it.
If you need further information, please don't hesitate to email me. I'll be glad to give you some more insides. Have a great vacation!

Good choice,
It is the best value for money you can find now I think with 100 dollars a night you can find some very nice accomodation, the baht is currently 40/1$.
To book you holidays I strongly recommend, http://tiscoverasia.com, they have interesting rates and no fake 5o %25 discount. Check on different sites before answering to a so called 5o%25 discount. Most of the time it is just a way to trap you.
