Ayers Rock & Queensland Excursion Advice
 

Myself and new husband - yes it's another honeymoon couple - will be travelling to Australia in 3 weeks time. I have a few queries re excursions.

AYERS ROCK - which combination would you pick:
(1) Discovery Eco Tours Uluru Sunrise & Base Walk (AM)and Disc Eco Tours Olgas Sunset and Gorge Walk (PM)

PROS: Have heard good reviews re: Discovery Eco Tours and the Base Walk is v. intensive.
CONS: this allows no time at all at the Cultural Centre or interaction with Aboriginal People. No Valley of Winds walk.
(2) AAT Kings - Uluru Sunrise & Olgas Valley of Winds Walk (AM) and Kuniya Sunset Tour with Anangu Tours (PM)

PROS: Valley of Winds walk and Aboriginal Interaction plus stop at Cultural Centre
CON: Not intensive Base Walk - how much of Ayers Rock would we cover?

ANY EXPERIENCE OF THESE TOURS OR OTHERS AND WHICH WOULD YOU ADVISE TO TAKE?

In QUEENSLAND which Cape Tribulation Tour would you recommend for itinerary and min travelling max stops:

BTS Tours (minibus-max 16 people)
Tony's Tropical Tours (4WD, max 6)
Deluxe Safari Tours (4WD, max 6)
Trek North (nos. and vehicle?)
Australian Wilderness experience (minibus, max 16)

I would prefer to have a more relaxing and personal tour - prefer not to go on River Train but boat if possible.
They all have pros/cons so which of them would you recommend overall and why?

KURUNDA - which tour would you recommend (would like to do Train/Skyrail/Tjupukai) - would like free time and not to feel hurried.

We went on the Discovery Eco TOurs Olga Sunset/walk & Uluru Sunrise tour. We loved the tour guides and the experience. The walks were hardly challenging. Just make sure you have good shoes because it can be rocky.

I loved the BTS tour to the Daintree. Again the tour guide was wonderful and very informative.

You are going about the same time we did 2 years ago and the weather was perfect in both places. It wasn't that crowded on either of our tours so it was very personable. Even if it is booked, neither really have large crowds.

Justina, Why not rent a car for the few days you are there. We did and took ourselves out to Uluru for sunset, out to the Olgas in the AM for a leisurely and spectacular Valley of the winds hike and then over to the cultural center a few different times and then back for a dawn walk around Uluru. Plenty of flexibility and probably the cost of tours x 2

Justina - Trek North takes max. 12 - 4WD. Very knowledgeable guides and great lunch in tropical fruit orchard on northern side of Daintree River.

just returned from 3 days in the area and would suggest renting a car and going on your own. We picked the car up at the Ayers Rock airport& returned it at the Alice Springs airport and flew out onto darwin. The tours we saw moved very slowly. We were able to drive out late one afternoon, do the cultural center, go to the sounds of silence dinner, return the next day for sunrise, do the 7 mile base walk, drive to the olgas, hike the valley of the winds, and drive onto Kings Cayon . We had a great time at Kings Canyon and would recoomend fitting it into your trip.
