Australian Daylight Saving starts 3rd October - ends 3/4/2011
 

Clocks moved forward 1 hour in NSW, VIC, SA, ACT - Qld, WA and NT don't participate in daylight saving.

When moving form NSW to Qld put your clocks back on hour and your calendars a decade.

Thanks, Bokhara. We are flying to Shanghai via Sydney on Thursday, and I was about to check whether or not you had gone to DS.
On the way back, we have to do a stopover in Brisbane, so I will take with me some clothes from the 1990's. Hang on a minute, all of my clothes are from the 1990's!

I think it's one of our hidden gems; very livable city, great climate, well planned & attractive walkways, restaurants etc., along the river.

Was there last weekend and saw the Valentino exhibition at the GOMA (Gallery of Modern Art, opened 2006). The transport, parking & visitor friendliness of the arts precinct has a lot to teach some of our other cities.

I'm very glad that you went to the trouble to post this, since I'm travelling from the U.S. (CST) to Australia later this month. I had made a note that it would be 15 hours later in Australia (we will be in Sydney, then Queensland), but I now think I was mistaken. Could you please elaborate? Thanks.

Until Nov. 2, 2010, the US still have daylight saving.

Australia has just changed, it is also currently on daylight saving time (except for the banana benders in QLD and the sand gropers in WA and sundry NT inhabitants).

So for the remainder of October 2010, the difference between cities like Dallas or Minneapolis, those in Central DST (Central Daylight Savings Time), and Sydney is 16 hours, Sydney being ahead of the US..

If it is midnight where you are in the USA Central time zone, it is already 4PM in Sydney. If it is 8AM where you are in the USA Central time zone it is midnight in Sydney. If it is noon where you are in the Central time zone, it is 4AM the next morning in Sydney.

Good point, Bokhara - please, please, North Americans spell out date when making bookings for day, month, year in that order - ie, 5th October, 2011, not 10/5/2011, unless we have our wits about this can (and has been) taken as 10th May,2011.

Safe travels, kiwi_rob. Never been there but daughter and son-in-law loved their few days in Shanghai. In fact, daughter tried to get a cheap flight from Auckland to Palmerston North a couple of years ago to attend a funeral - and instead ended up buying a return ticket to Shanghai - it was cheaper on special!! Hopefully, apart from possible airquakes, you will be able to regain some steady land legs.

I too am a fan of Brisbane. We had 3 days there with my sister on our way home from Alice Springs & Uluru. Beautiful weather, lunch on the river bank at a delightful pub, cruise yet again on the river in the warmth. South Bank is just a treat with its Art Gallery, Museum and of course cafes. Visiting Mt Coot-tha for an amazing reconnoitre of the city and beyond, and having a great coffee and snack at the cafe added yet another previously not experienced dimension to our views of Brisbane. Definitely a city worth a few days stopover.
