Australian Advice!
If you want any advice on Australia; flights, cities to visit, etc, just give me an email and i will attempt to answer them for you.

I don't mind doing this because I used this forum to plan a one mth holiday to the US. Without the help of others I would have missed a hell of a lot. The holiday was very well planned, and we had a ball!!

I forgot to add that i am an australian, living in sydney. I travel a lot and have lived in a number of our cities.

Hi,

I'm from Sweden
My wife and I are plannning a 2-3 week trip to Sydney, Noosa, Adeleide and Perth; starting in mid December 2001

We have been to Sydney before, and to Noosa, Melbourne, Cairns etc, so we know the country

Last time we stayed at Old Sydney Parkroyal - but it is a bit on the expensive side. Can you recommend any other good hotel in the Rocks or Circular Key area - not more expensive than Old Sydney Parkroyal?
Any hotel advise for Adelaide and Perth?

I can give you advise for trips to Europe

Tommy

We are going to Australia for Xmas. Will spend 7 days in campervan and then spend rest of trip gold Coast. We have three 18-24 year olds with us so hoping they find this area to be a young crowd. We want to see lots of wildlife, water time at whatever is good to do and just tour and browse. Have Condo on gold coast. If you have some advice of any kind I sure would like to hear it

Dolores, visit Bryon Bay in NSW. It is south of the Gold Coast, maybe a 1 hour drive. Lots of young people, pubs, surfing. We stay at Lennox Head which is a further 20 mins south of Bryron, very quiet, excellent surfing beaches

Hi Tommy:

I am from Perth. What style/price hotel are you looking for. What sort of things do you like to do - for example do you want city or beach hotels?

Hi my name is jen and I need info on Austrailian foods, could you HELP ME PLEASE!!!

ThANKS

Hi, Brendan,
here you have a couple of questions:
how long is it possible to arrive north from Cairns by car? is it worth the trip?
what do you know about the Plenty Highway?

3rd, what could you tell me about the Kimberley and Shark Bay?
Thank you
|
Hi Jim,

I don't know if Brendan is monitoring his post now so I will answer some of your questions.

I am not sure what you are asking in your first question, if you mean is there anything worth seeing above Cairns the answer is yes. It is a nice drive up to Port Douglas.

Do not repeat do not attempt to drive the Plenty Highway. The name in it self is a joke. This so called highway is nothing more than a goat track. Unless you have a 4 wheel drive car such as a Landcruiser that is set up for this kind of trek and are travelling with another 4X4 then forget it. The Plenty goes through some of the most arid deserted land in Australia and is not tar sealed.

The Kimberly region is good in the dry season but don't bother going there in the wet season. I have given you, below, a website to check on Kimberly tours:

http://www.bunglebungle.com.au/kimberleytours.html

and another longer tour is:

http://www.safaris.net.au/bb15.htm

Shark Bay is quite a deal further south than the Kimberly region. I am guessing you want to visit Monkey Mia to swim with the dolphins. Well instead of me re-inventing the wheel on this I have given you a website that should help you on this below:

http://www.sharkbay.asn.au/members/heritage/drive.html

Hope this helps
Jen,
What do you want to know about Australian food? It is generally reasonably inexpensive and good quality. We have restaurants with every type of food imaginable.
|
Re food. Hi, I live in Adelaide and I have noticed a few people asking about food. You can get pretty much any type of food in Australia - any nationality, vegetarian, Kosher etc. Adelaide has fabulous restaurants, brilliant food covering everything from $5.00 laksas up. Ingredients are usually fresh. I lived in London for two eyars and really missed the lovely fresh fruit and veggies - and the steaks! - from home. Eat up, and have a great time.

Dear Brendan,

Quick questions:

Can you suggest a hotel in Sydney with a harbour/opera house view for 1 couple/17 yr. old daughter in the Circular Quay Area...is there a difference between Quay West and Quay Grand?

Surfers Paradise...any suggestions for places there?

Would prefer to keep room rate with breakfast to $125 US.

Please respond. Thanks a lot

Margaret

I would be visiting Australia this December probably for two weeks. I would like to concentrate on Southern Australia, specifically Tasmania, Melbourne & Adelaide. It would probably be a self-drive holiday. Can you give me some advice on places to visit, rental car, accomodation, etc.
Any help given will be appreciated. Alternatively, perhaps you can direct me to some websites where I can seek help.
Thank you

Message for Christopher
Here are some websites which help you.
www.tourism.tas.gov.au
www.visitvictoria.com.au
www.visitsouthaustralia.com.au
www.visitnsw.com.au
www.melbourne.citysearch.com.au
www.sydney.citysearch.com.au

Message for Diane
We've travelled along the east coast of Australia several times and here are some of our favourite places.
Cania Gorge - about 100 km inland from Rockhampton. About 20 km from nearest town - basically caravan park with cabins. Kangeroos and bettongs throughout the park. Lots and lots of birds which are fed every afternoon. Some good shortish walks.
Fraser Island - largest sand island in the world and now a national park. Take the boat from Hervey Bay or Maryborough.
Sunshine Coast - north of Brisbane about 30 km long - lots of places to stay and eat. Go to Eumundi Market on Saturday morning. Also see the ginger factory at Yandina.
Visit Bundaberg and go to the rum factory.
Mission Beach (between Cairns and Townsville) - lovely spot with magnificent beach. You can get a boat to Dunk Island for the day. Paronella Park (about 30 minutes drive from Mission Beach) is really interesting - make sure you take the guided walk if you go there.
For $150 a night you will have no trouble getting good accommodation. You may have to prebook if you are travelling in school holidays. Email me if I can help any more.
