Australia Itinerary Question
 

As part of our trip I want to drive the Great Ocean Road and end up in Adelaide before flying back to Sydney for the last leg of our journey.
We planned to fly from Brisbane to Melbourne spend a couple of nights there before hiring a car for 3-4 days.
What is the best scenic route to do the GOR ending up in Adelaide?
Any help appreciated.

The best scenic route is the Princes Freeway to Geelong then The Great Ocean Road to Torquay,Lorne,Apollo Bay,Port Campbell,Warrnambool then the Princes Highway (A1) to Port Fairy, Portland,Mt.Gambier, Robe and on to Adelaide. www.visitvictoria.com

Not sure how long you are intending to take for the drive from Melbourne to Adelaide but having done it exactly as DownUnder advised do allow 3 days / 2 nights if you want to stop and look at various places . We stayed at Mt Gambier and did the trip in 2 days but it is not long enough in my view . Loved Robe as a town . The Blue Lake at Mt G is extraordinairy . As part of our Nov 2009 trip I booked a car thru drivenow.com.au and have booked overnight stays in Lorne, Warrnambool and Robe before driving onto Adelaide for the GOR leg of the journey.

Lorne is not a long way along the GOR Mick and a slight variation you could fit in would be to drive south out of Melbourne down the Mornington Peninsula to Sorrento [ a slight extension/doubleback to Portsea and Point Nepean worthwhile too]

Catch the ferry across to Queenscliff a historical port town and then you can connect through to the GOR.
