What is the weather like? Where to go considering the iffy weather?

In May/June, anywhere south of Coffs Harbour will be cold and probably wet. North of Coffs, you should get warmer weather but still probably some rain. We have holidayed at the Gold Coast and Cairns at this time of year and temperatures have usually been 22-25 degrees Celcius. Darwin will be considerably warmer - up to low 30s. Alice Springs will be very cold at night but usually pleasant by the afternoon.

Having lived most of my long life in Sydney, I'm puzzled by marg's view that the weather south of Coffs would be 'probably wet'. In Sydney it can be wet or dry at any time of the year, depending on el nino factors. May-June can be cool and sunny, rather than cold and wet.
Apart from that, it's nice in Brisbane at that time of year, great on the GBR, and it's the best time to see Central Australia.
Probably not good for Melbourne!

cool to cold in Melbourne and Hobart but not their coldest or wettest month . Far North ( Cairns and beyond )will be mild to very warm but the weather has been a little odd the last couple of years so you might need a light jumper for night and it has been windy .Have a look at weatherzone.com.au

I wouldn't go to Melbourne in June. It is the greyest month of the year and it can be miserable. But, if you like cold weather, then you might love it.

May's not too bad but if you are coming to Australia, you may as well head somewhere where it's warm.

The Sunshine Coast in Queensland is usually in the low 20's (celcius) at that time of year. That would be a perfect time to visit Darwin, Kakadu, Katherine Gorge and Litchfield National Park.

In Kakadu, the rangers come back to work on the last weekend in May, where they provide free tours to visitors. It is well worth checking out.
