Australia fire devastation

please excuse me if anyone feels this is the wrong place for this. but it breaks my heart and i want to help the situation. as most everyone is aware, Australia is being devastated by wildfires right now. something that is taking a huge brunt of this devastation is the wildlife. my wife and i have been lucky enough to visit there twice and a place we particularly fell in love with is Kangaroo Island, a fantastic place off the coast of Adelaide.

this island is considered by some the Galapagos of Australia. wildlife variety like the country had 50 years ago and endemic species found nowhere else. most wouldn't think of an island as being susceptible to wildfires like this but due to climate change and hot dry winds about 2/3 of the island has been ravaged by fire. fortunately, the loss of human life has been small. but this is not the case for the amazingly diverse wildlife population.

there is a couple, Sam and Dana Mitchell, who run a wildlife park on the island called Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park, that is taking in injured local wildlife and nursing them back to health, especially the Koalas. full disclosure-this is a for profit establishment, not a non-profit. it is heartbreaking to see photos of the adorable marsupials with burned fur or bandages covering their singed paws. some won't make it and many will need long term veterinary care.

it is my hope that those of you who have read this far will have some interest in helping, even if a small amount. i am posting the park's website, where you can access a GoFundMe page to donate. additionally, i will add a direct link to the donation page and a link to an article regarding the crisis in this magical place. any amount will be appreciated and help treat these animals back to health with the hopes of someday releasing back to the wild those that can be.

Thank You for reading and any donation you contribute. Happy New Year.
