Aussie Ashes tour to UK
As the Aussies land in UK next week I was wondering how many of you Australian Fodors regulars will be coming over too.
Muck |
G'day Muck
I'd planned to be there for the end of the tour - but, decided to spend my money on doctors' bills instead! :( RATS!!!! |
Well thats a damn shame..get well soon and then you can come over and you may get to see Glamorgan win, I did last week. Its a rare sight these days
Muck |
Too right Muck....this aussie will be on tour with the Collaroy Plateau CC.
We leave July 1,play 13 fixtures, see a one dayer at headingley on july 7 and I have a ticket to day 4 of the Lords test! I'll say hello to that great welsh cricketer M Kasprowicz for you. How many taffies in the england squad? the two Jones's? I have two spare days...july 22 and 23...might even drive over to my mate at Crofty...have a look at glamorgan at sophia gardens. How long London-Cardiff? Cardiff-Crofty? BTW ..I thought you would be heading to kiwiland for the all blacks v "welsh" lions. |
Hey johhj_au
Great to hear your coming over, the more aussies to beat the better...lol London to Cardiff by car is about 150 miles so 2 1/4 hours ish although my MIL did it in 1 hour 30 (she got a speeding ticket)Train is about 1 hr 45. Cardiff to Crofty: well its about 1hr if the traffic is ok. Yes only 2 taffies, severn bridge is a long way from lords and the Selectors think there's a troll living under it so they don't venture past very often. Kaspo?? I thought he had retired, don't see him down this way..lol We have Ganguly now he was out for a duck and 15 in 2nd innings. A shrewd recruitment....not. Hey if your going to Sophia let me know I'll join you for a beer or 2. July 22/23rd I will see what games are on then and report back. Muck |
Hi John,
Looks like there is nothing with Glamorgan on those two dates the nearest are these 20/07/2005 . Middlesex (Floodlit) Cardiff starts around 16:10 21/07/2005 . Middlesex Cardiff There is a possibility that 30/07/2005 Australia at Cardiff but that will only happen if worcestershire are in 20/20 and Glam not. I will cast the net further afield Muck |
Hi John,
oops Looks like on those two dates you have the 2nd and 3rd days play against Middlesex or 20/07/2005 . Middlesex (Floodlit) Cardiff starts around 16:10 There is a possibility that 30/07/2005 Australia at Cardiff but that will only happen if worcestershire are in 20/20 and Glam not. Muck |
Thanks Mucky...
20/7/05 we are at Hambledon,Hants. 30/7/05 I am back in sydney. Has to be 22/7 if its going to happen.... if its not an oxymoron what are the tourist attractions of south wales? |
John Hi,
If you plan for the 22nd let me know and I will meet you there. You can get tickets at the gate. South Wales, well it does depend upon what you like however there are plenty of castles and a underground mining museum that sends you down the shaft. Seaside and coastal walks, St Fagans museum of welsh life (St Fagans have a good village cricket side too) Gower is beautiful West Wales is good too. Caerleon has roman ruins and museum and even a small amphitheatre. Let me know what you like and I will try to be more specific. Muck |
Ok Muck..here we go ...in 30 hours or less...I need to answer these questions..
-why did Cook call this place NEW South Wales? -the relationship between the pit and the welsh rugby tradition? -how has south wales coped with the thatcher de industralisation? -how multi cultural is south wales today? -is welsh nationalism a joke? -a pleasant two hour pub to pub walk in the Gower peninsula? -the price of a pint at sophia gardens? |
oh and throw in a little Dylan Thomas as well...
|
why did Cook call this place NEW South Wales?...No Idea..but why not
-the relationship between the pit and the welsh rugby tradition?.... Pits/villages had their own teams and huge comoraderie. When maggie closed the pits, the village breeding grounds for outside halfes soon disapeared as men moved away for work and the communities were broken up... -how has south wales coped with the thatcher de industralisation?...It has had to re generate itself, new industries such as electronics and service industry along with large shopping areas all go to provide jobs. The steel industry is profitable now too. -how multi cultural is south wales today?.......South Wales is quite multi cultural, Cardiff- biggest exporter of coal in the world. Also Swansea and Newport were all industrial ports, thus many many people stayed, its a bit like Melbourne. -is welsh nationalism a joke?...Yes -a pleasant two hour pub to pub walk in the Gower peninsula?...No Idea but will investigate -the price of a pint at sophia gardens? £2.40...I usually take my own, but then I'm a stingy git. Dylan Thomas, womanising alcholic famous in west wales for drinking the pubs dry, I think he lived in a boat shed and wrote stuff...not my cup of tea unfortunately, Dylan was born on October 27, 1914 at No 5, Cwmdonkin Drive in Swansea, and died on November 9, 1953 in St Vincent’s Hospital, New York. Apologise for my ignorance.... Muck |
OK I have investigated the pubs....not all of them you must understand.
There is a reasonable website you may like to look at: http://members.aol.com/gowersouthwal...-Pub-Guide.htm You should be able to plan something along the lines of the mumbles pub tour Muck |
Thanks Muck...
I was trying to find out where I would go to answer those questions. Howver it looks as though my mate is away on hols at that time..the project looks doubtful. |
well never mind, if you find your down this neck of the woods, let me know.
Enjoy your trip and I look forward to those wonderful ashes games Muck |
I don't believe there can beany real Aussie Cricket Down Under while johnj is touring the English and Welsh countryside.
A/D |
Going by last night 20/20 result I don't think there is much Aussie cricket here at all (So far)
Great result for England but what happened to the Aussies?? Muck |
Just getting the odds up, boys. Don't know a good Indian bookie, do you? :)
|
AD
There'll be absolutely NO cricket in Oz while JohnJ is in Pom-land! The Aussie team is also in UK - and cricket is a summer game here! (and now it's bloody winter :( ) |
Muck
things will get serious after July 1 when the mighty Collaroy CC arrive in Manchester. We will be at Headingley on July 7, Leicester on July 15 and Lords on July 24. A/D Be warned...the plans for SF in April 2006 are confirmed...will e mail after the english tour...be prepared for a long monologue on the post colonial implications of the bodyline ashes series! |
