Auckland to Queenstown

Would like suggestions as to best domestic airline to fly from Auckland to Queenstown. Also, would like suggestions for B&B in Queenstown. Will be arriving Auckland March 24 and plan to tramp the Routeburn Track March 26-28. How long would it take to drive Queenstown to Abel Tasman National Park? How could we best get from Abel Tasman area back to Auckland? Need to be in Auckland evening of March 31.

Read The BEST Activities comments in The North Island a couple of sections above here. Why fly when you can travel by surface and see the country?

Roy, you make a good point. Since they arrive in Aukland on the 24th and have to be at the Routburn Track on the 26, could you please give a detailed and scenic route to cover the two islands in that one day period between?

Hey Slow learner, <BR>They have to come back to Auckalnd don't they? Couldn't they spend a day on the railcar from Wellington to Auckland? Ughh?

Earlier this year I flew from Auckland to Wellington on Air New Zealand, changed planes and flew on to Queenstown. Arriving and leaving from Queenstown is one of the most exciting flight patterns anywhere in the world, flying carefully between mountain peaks and valleys--like threading a needle as you prepare to land. And, if you can splurge a bit, try the fabulous Milford Resort. You'll never forget it or the fantastic Milford Sound by boat. Have a great trip! I haven't seen scenery this beautiful anywhere else in the world.
