Are there any winery tours?

Were visiting in Feb and want to tour the wine regions. Any suggestions?

You haven't mentioned which regions you want to visit. There are day coach tours from Melbourne to the Yarra valley wineries, and in Adelaide, you can do a day tour to the Barossa valley. In Perth, you can do the Swan River wineries on a day tour, but the Margaret River area will take longer to get to. You could hire a car and do a two/three day tour around that area.
The main wine region in NSW is around the Hunter Valley - again a bit far for a day trip but if you hire a car, you could do the Hunter Valley and the Port Stephens area (lots of dolphins there and nice beaches) in a two/three day trip.
Hi Kathryn

We'll be in Sydney the last week of December and are hiring a car to do an overnight at the Hunter Valley, followed by a night in the Blue Mountains. We've been told a daytrip is possible for both but with all that wine, who wants to drive?
We're staying at the Hunter Resort - which does various tours and has it's own wine school. It looks pretty good - see www.hunterresort.com.au - unless somebody here can tell me otherwise...

(Liz - yes I am a bona fide tourist and not connected to the resort or travel industry in any way - and I agree with your opinions on companies that post here!)

Counting down to blast off on 24 Dec 1600 GMT :-))

bee

Thanks for all of your replies. We are considering a day trip to Hunters Valley and an extended trip to Adelaide. Might make sense to hop a tour for Hunter's Valley for a day trip from Sydney.

Kathryn, the Hunter Valley is 160kms north of Sydney. If you do a day trip it will be a long day and you'll need your own car if not doing an organised tour. For info. look at:

http://www.visitnsw.com.au/0200/reg.asp?ID=0204

From Adelaide you can visit not only the best known region, the Barossa Valley, but also the Clare Valley and McClaren Vale to the south.

G'day Kathryn and a Merry Christmas to you.
Before I get flamed - I'm a tour operator.

February is our summer and it can get pretty hot. The best areas to visit during summer would be Victoria and South Australia.
There are good wineries in the Yarra Valley just out of Melbourne, a few small wineries between Melb. and Adelaide and then of course our prime wine growing area - the Barossa Valley, not far from Adelaide. Just north of there is the Clare Valley.
Both the Barossa and the Clare Valley's produce a wide variety of grapes and so does McLaren Vale just south of Adelaide.

I don't run wine tours but can customise tours to suit any activity :-)

Write to me if you need more info on the above wine growing areas.

Here are a few links for you to peruse - just to make you thirsty.

http://www.classiccountry.org.au/indulge.html
http://members.ozemail.com.au/~fliranre/barossa.htm
http://www.walkabout.com.au/fairfax/...arenVale.shtml
http://www.greatplacestostay.com.au/yarra_valley_c.asp

Enjoy,
Mike
