We're flying United to Auckland in 2 weeks and haven't been told otherwise. What's the info you have?

They are ending service March 30th ..we planned our trip about 8 months ago so we had no clue this would happen

The press release on United 's website says that passengers who have tickets for travel after the route is discontinued will be accomodated on Air NZ. When I called United on Monday to ask about the fate of my tickets for April, I was told that the details hadn't been arranged, but that I'd be rebooked on Air NZ (their code-share partner) on the same dates at no additional cost and that United would call me once that was done. Not exactly a definitive rebooking. I'm going to keep calling every few days. I'm not really too worried yet, but I'd feel better knowing that things were actually set. It seems a bit irresponsible to announce the route discontinuance before they had firm arrangements for the affected passengers.

Here in "UA country"....San Francisco area, this will be a blow to many who have mileage and who counted on the only non-stop from SFO-SYDNEY.

For everyone else already booked, as Air NZ is a "partner" with UA, they will move those passengers to Air NZ flights; however, that will most likely involve a stop from LAX to Auckland and then onto Australia. (as well as passengers getting from SFO to LAX).

Regards,

Melodie
Certified Aussie Specialist

Melodie, I'm a bit confused by your posting. UA is discontinuing service to Auckland, but the Sydney nonstop service should be unaffected, since they're not closing down their Sydney operations (yet).
