Any suggestions for our South Island stay?

We will be spending 14 days in NZ in late December/early January. After lots of research we have set a tentative itinerary:

-2 days Queenstown (flying LA-Auckland-Queenstown)
-3 days Routeburn Track
-3 nights at Blanket Bay, outside of Queenstown
-1 night at Lake Moeraki Wilderness Lodge
-1 night at Franz Glacier (Westwood Lodge)
-2 nights at Wilderness lodge in Arthur's Pass
-1 night in Blenheim, including whale watching and perhaps a vineyard tour - we love wine!
-2 nights at Motueka River Lodge, including a day trip to Abel Tasman

Questions - We would love accommodation suggestions for Queenstown and Blenheim between $100-200 US$/nt.

Do you recommend the Milford sound day trip with the above itinerary? Are we trying to do too much driving on the trip?

Thank you

Hi Jessica

Your itinerary looks very good and I think it will work for you. The distances are deceptively long but at that time of the year the weather is good. You are visiting at our busiest time of the year so getting accommodation is a real urgency. How many in your party? I can make some good recommendations in Blenheim, especially in vineyard homestays and self-contained accommodation, and one or two in Queenstown. Contact me by e-mail
