Alice Spring to Ayers Rock Rental Car suggestion?
I would like to have a one-way rental car from Alice Spring to Ayers Rock or vice versa in 3 days in the beginning of July:
Day-1 fly to Alice Spring Day-2 to Kings Canyon Day-3 to Ayers Rock Day-4 fly out I found the rental car price is reasonable, but the one-way drop-off is way too much. Any suggestions on car rental and lodging on the way? Thanks in advance. |
HI Riverhill - IMHO your plan is just not doable at all.you cannot achieve that itinerary in 3 days. You could do one or the other (Uluru or Kings Canyon) but only just. Maybe you should think about flying in & out of Uluru. One way drop off fees are notoriously expensive around the world.
I would tell anyone to allow at least three nights at Uluru and same for Kings Canyon. I do believe that both destinations are worth the effort to get there - they are two of my favorite places on the planet. |
Cannot help with he one way rental but I found Central Car Hire most helpful.
Your trip is doable but only to say that you've done it. I also suggest that if you spend all that money getting there then you spend some time there too. Otherwise take a tour as you can rest on the bus. |
You will need more time but it is doable. We followed a similar route last July in a hired Hertz car. We had a full day sight seeing in Alice Springs. The following day we set off early(before 8am) to get to Kings Canyon to do the Rim walk(we managed this in a very brisk 2 1/2 hrs) then continue onto Uluru. It was a massive day, but we did achieve it(arrived 7.30pm). You then need at least a full day in Uluru before flying out. You must go to Uluru, do the base walk (or some of it. After a morning there, you can continue on to Kata Tjuta (Olgas)for a look and walk. Distances are massive and you need time to enjoy these amazing places when you get there. A truly awe inspiring part of Australia.

Thanks to all.
Considering the distance of driving and the cost, we are thinking about other options. Anyone has a recommendation for 3-day tour from Alice Springs to Ayers Rock (through Kings Canyon)? Thanks again. |
AAT Kings do tours there. Also look at Emu Run Tours, a smaller company based in Alice Springs.
