Will be traveling to Adelaide/Kangaroo Island in Sept '09 after spending 2 wks in WA. Will only be in the Adelaide area for 3 nts and was looking for a nice B&B, Boutique Hotel, etc. in or around the area. Will have a car hire so doesn't have to be right in the CBD. Will not be on a budget (per say) so any suggestions would be appreciated.

I love The Medina Grand Treasury Apartment Hotel . It can arrange parking .Fabulous position in historic building and many have terraces / balconies if you ask for one , spacious , quite elegant interiors , full kitchen / laundry facilities , close to supermarket / market , gym and indoor heated pool . Stayed there 3 times and no hesitation going back .

DownUnder/JohnFitz: thanks for the help. I will look into all of your suggested accomodations. By any chance, have you heard of the Majestic Roof Garden Hotel?? They also got good reviews.Would also welcome any suggestions for restaurants for dinners.

The Majestic Roof Garden is also in a very good position on Frome St. There are many cafes and restaurants at the East End of Rundle Street which is walking distance. Also close to North Terrace, one of Adelaide's loveliest streets, and the Botanic Gardens and Wine Museum. Incidentally a day in the Barossa Valley, about an hour away by car, is mandatory for any trip to S.A.

Some suggestions for finer dining in the Adelaide CBD:

- Chianti Classico on Hutt street. Menu examples here and make sure you book:http://www.chianticlassico.com.au/

Auge on Grote street: http://www.auge.com.au/

Also in the Grote street area is the Central Market - worth a look on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays if you are a foodie.
While you are there have a simple, no fuss,seafood lunch at Georges or Stanleys on Gouger street. The local King George Whiting or flathead fish in Coopers beer batter with chips and a salad is a specialty and won't cost you an arm and a leg.

The food hall at the Central Market has many choices for a cheap and cheerful lunch amongst the locals. Try 'Ricky's Chicken Rice'stall for the Hainan chicken dish for about $8 or a Laksa at the 'Asian Gourmet'stall, Shop 6, Western Walkway, Central Market (about $10).


- If you are heading for a drive into the Adelaide Hills , have lunch at the Bridgewater Mill. Upmarket, but well worth it!

- If you are heading to the Barossa for the day there are many, many places to eat, but we have always enjoyed 1918 in Tanunda : http://www.1918.com.au/ and also Vintners at Angaston : http://www.vintners.com.au/

- If you are heading to McLaren Vale then stop at the Star of Greece in Port Willunga for one of the best beach cafe experiences: http://www.bestrestaurants.com.au/re...rofgreece.aspx

The Majestic Roof Garden is a nice place to stay and handy to the major city attractions as previously mentioned.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I took notes and will try to get to some of the restaurants. We'll be in Adelaide for 3 full days/nights (after 12 nts in WA) and then off to KI for 2 nts. We'll fly over there on Rex in am to save some time and I think we'll do our own self-drive with lots of maps.
