Aitutaki Lagoon Resort or Pacific?

Hi,

I thought I had my mind all made up with Aitutaki Lagoon Resort, because they have OWBs. I've been looking at the Pacific Resort website, and now I think it looks even better, although no OWBs. The only thing is, the rate for the beach suite is going up by $500 per night next year.

Is it worth it ????

This would really stretch our budget.

How expensive are drinks, meals etc. I was going to budget $300 per day....is this enough ? (2 people).

Any advise ?

Thanks

Just returned from Aitutaki. Aitutaki Lagoon Resort was very nice--dinner not as good as at Pacific resort--which had world-class food. Pacific Resort is on a much nicer beach than the Ait. Lagoon Resort--it looked quite murky there and it is near where the new Sheraton will be built--not sure of timing. We stayed at Are Tamanu which was wonderful--just down the beach from Pacific Resort (many people walked down beach for dinners at night).
I don't know that Pacific Resort is worth the extra chunk it seems to be going up to next year though.
Not sure if you meant you were budgeting $300 day for food and drink only. If so and if it's US$ that's more than enough.

We stayed in one of the OWB at Lagoone Resort, they are partial OW, since the entrance is on land & you have an outdoor shower but the desk is overwater. It was great but Pacific was not finished at the time so I cannot compare. We didn't think the food was that great.

I mean the deck was overwater! We would definitely stay there again. I hate to hear about the Sheraton building close by though.

Hi,

Yes, I know what you mean.....I can't think of anything worse than travelling all that way and then ending up next to building site.

I think we'll be going to the Pacific but just not in one of the suites. It's a special occasion (well two actually) so I think it'll be worth the splurge.

You never know, we might get an upgrade.

Pacific Resort!!!!!!!!!!!! We stayed there for a week in Aitutaki after a week in Rarotonga and it was so nice! We loved our stay there and the buffet breakfast is a LOT of food - and it was included in our nightly rate. This saved us quite a bit, because all you really need is maybe a light snack for lunch and then have a good dinner later. So, $300/day is way more than enough for food & drink at the Pacific Resort. Gosh, we spent probably less than $100/day for food & drink. But then again, I don't drink and my husband only drinks vodka and wine - not big on mixed drinks.

We stayed in the beachfront bungalow and it was just great! I think a suite would have been a waste for us, but if you can get an upgrade for free, do it! We got free late checkout on the day we left. That was nice. We checked out at 4pm so we could board our plane at 5pm back to Rarotonga. Grabbed dinner at Trader Jack's and headed home around 10:30pm....

here's a link to some of my pictures.

I just took the day trip to Aitutaki (from Raro) a week or so ago, and met a nice couple who were staying at the Pacific Resort there. They said that the resort is being considered for the list of the "100 Best New Small Hotels". That says a lot. It must be really special! I'm sure you will enjoy it.
