Aitutaki - Getting there!?

I'm aware that Air Rarotonga flies from Rarotonga to Aitutaki, but is there any other way to get out to the island? Say, by boat ?

We're trying to keep our trip costs to a low (like anyone I guess..!) and found a couple of sites that offer flights included in their accomodation packages such as:

It seems too good to be true, as Air Rarotonga costs about $450NZ return?

I guess my question is; How did you get to Aitutaki? :)

It is 17 years or so since I went and flying was the only real option aswe went for a day trip. Boats tend to be local cargo boats, that whilst cheap and do take passengers it is not their main trade and it will not be in comfortable cabins. There may now be a passenger boat but I doubt it.

Why do you want to go?

A day trip is plenty unless you want to spend lots of time just sitting around on the beach. It is a small island in a largish lagoon. Very pretty and tropical and all that, but I hate sitting around doing nothing.

There is some excellent snorkelling and swimming, but as good can be done on Raratonga.
