afternoon tea places in Sydney or Melbourne?
Where is the best place for afternoon tea in Sydney or Melbourne, pls? Thx!

In Melbourne, go to the Windsor Hotel (good old fashioned English tea and scones and devonshire cream). It's the grande dame hotel, up towards Parliament Square.

Sydney is harder, as it doesn't have similar traditions (Melbourne being much more European in feeling and weather!)

I have a feeling that someone on this Forum made mention of having a nice afternoon tea at the Intercontinental Hotel in Sydney - but am not sure. If you did a search you might find it.
Also, it is not as grand as a nice hotel but David Jones Department Store in Elizabeth Street, Sydney, has a restaurant on the 6th Floor - which serves a proper old fashioned afternoon tea. There are two cafe type places on lower floors which have nice food, but the restaurant would be the best.
As Deb has said it is not really a part of life in Sydney to the same degree as Melbourne, or indeed England.

the other option for a traditional afternoon tea is Melbourne is the Hopetoun Cafe in the Block Arcade, just off Collins st. The Arcade is well worth a visit-intact and restored early Victoriana.

Most hotels in Sydney serve afternon tea and some offer high tea as for eg at the Intercontinental. As a Sydneysider I love sitting by the water for my afternoon tea and go to Nielsen Park or Botanic gardens where there are lovely cafes

Try "the tea room" (that's the name of the restaurant, with no capitals) in Sydney. It's located on the top floor of the Queen Victoria Building. Had tea there twice, great scones!
