Afternoon Tea in Sydney
 

Can anyone recommend a special place for afternoon tea? We will be visiting our grandsons' school in Woolahra and would like to take them to tea immediately afterward. I'm sure it would be a great (hopefully!) experience for them. Thanks for any advise.

Somewhere that I'm not sure does high tea but looks lovely is pruniers.

Also close to Woollahra (please note correct spelling for your future reference) is the Stamford Plaza Hotel in Double Bay.
Or on a more casual note Georges Cafe also in Double Bay.

Thanks Lancefan and Prue. Did I mention that the boys are ages 7 and 5. We live in the States, so we don't get to see them often. They live in swimsuits (reside in Bondi) when not in school uniforms, so my husband and I thought it might be a memorable experience to treat them to high tea at a special place. It will probably be something that they'll talk about for ages (we might also!!). Anyway, I can't wait to check out the websites you suggested. Thanks again.

Thanks, Lancefan. After checking out your websites, Pruniers seems the perfect choice. I also enjoyed checking out The "Australian Traveller". This will be our fifth visit to Sydney, and there always seems to be new places to explore.

Well, I've not tried Pruniers (which may win on geographical grounds) (and I'm a westie!) but tea at the Intercontinental is quite interesting, and at the Observatory Hotel was good.

Monterey, you might also like to look at the Hughenden which is actually in Woollahra. It is a lovely old Victorian place to stay on a smart street. I have been to dinner there which was nice and I suspect they may do afternoon tea.

What's especially good about Pruniers is that it's located in Woolahra, looks like a beautiful setting, and serves high tea on school days (Wednesday-Sunday) unlike most of the other suggestions. From the website, however, I can't tell whether it's a restaurant or hotel. Would that make any difference?

And, Peteralan, your suggestion of Hughenden will also be checked out...it had previously been suggested to us by family. It, too, is well situated.

My husband and I will check out both places upon arrival and make reservations. I'm sure either place will be lovely.

Pruniers is a restaurant rather than a hotel - and is situated in a lovely park like area - plenty of room for boys to run about during/after tea!
